As I look out at a thick blanket of snow dashing the hopes of those optimistic little green crocus shoots which I noticed forcing their way out of the ground in my garden only a few days ago it is improbable to contemplate that Spring and its promise of a little sunshine is just around the corner.

Beautiful though it is, I think that it is safe to assume that in a matter of days the snow, for which we are always ill prepared, will have disappeared and all that will remain will be muddy brown puddles at the side of the road and the spring bulbs will peer out once again to determine whether it is safe to resume their life cycle. It takes more than a few inches of snow to stop these determined little colchicums in their tracks.

Before the warmer days and lighter nights become a fixture once again we have St. Valenine’s Day to look forward to. Not just the preserve of courting couples, expensive florists and extortionate restaurants. It’s nice to heap some extra lovin’ onto our children and make the day special for them too – make a special card for daddy, bake some cup cakes or cookies together and have fun decorating them with hearts.
