Family

What a pleasantly satisfying day we spent together yesterday en famillie, it’s just a shame that I was too exhausted to write about it before the natural warmth of being surrounded by those who are dearest to you was overcome by the overwhelming need for a long hot bath and bed.

Our Sunday was spent almost entirely at home, except, much to Noah’s delight, the hour or so just after lunch when we took a walk around the village to deliver a few Christmas cards (Noah being one of the much tormented four legged members of our family).

We spent the morning cleaning and tidying in preparation for a visit from the boys grandparents. Captain Chaos, Major Disaster and their daddy, Corporal Punishment were all surprisingly co-operative and we achieved a lot in a short space of time. After the Royal Visit some home made soup was consumed and the aforementioned walk taken. As MD was asleep upon our return CC, CP and I set about the backbreaking task of removing a newly delivered load of seasoned logs from the middle of our driveway to the out house round the back.

After dinner the boys decorated their own little Christmas tree which we had saved from last year and repotted to bring inside. After the bedtime routine (‘just one more last story’)when the boys were sound asleep I decorated the large tree in the hall. This is a job which I relish as I consider the finished article a work of art when all goes according to plan – which reminds me, i’ll have to take a photograph before it begins to droop a bit!

Forgive the self indulgent post but I just felt compelled to record the days events as it is so rare that we get to stay in one place for a whole twenty four hours. I feel that we always seem to be rushing here, there and everywhere for shopping, to friends or family or because we feel that we need to
stimulate or educate our offspring. As the boys get older I feel that CP and I will have to learn to
operate as a Tag Team to ensure that they are able to fulfill their social and sporting commitments. I just felt that, by bringing in the logs and being together there had been a slowing of pace, perhaps due to the time of year, which was worthy of comment.

I love this pre Christmas period anyway, the anticipation of children and the belief that around any corner there could be an elf looking for good or bad behaviour to report back to Santa. The scent of freshly cut pine trees, cinnamon and mulled wine have to be among my favourites…

…anyway, that was yesterday. Today the house is in turmoil again as there never seems to be enough time to do everything on that list, but it’s a happy, cinnamony, freshly cut pine sort of turmoil
and there were no fairy light issues, thank goodness.
